What does the course consist of?

AS

  • Two units studied: - Religious Ethics and New Testament.
  • In the Religious Ethics unit students will study ethical theories and then apply these to topical issues such as abortion, euthanasia and genetic engineering.
  • In the New Testament unit students will study the first century Gospel setting, the Themes and texts of Mark’s passion narrative and the resurrection in the Synoptic Gospels.

  • Two units studied: - Religious Ethics and New Testament.
  • In the Religious Ethics unit students will study meta-ethics, free will and determinism, conscience, virtue ethics and applied ethics topics.
  • In the New Testament unit students will study the setting and methodology of the Gospels and the themes in the New Testament.

Whom does the subject suit?

The subject is widely regarded by universities. It requires lots of reading and the subject is essay based therefore it needs a strong commitment to the demands to do well.

What might the subject lead on to?

A few individuals go on to do Ethics or Philosophy at university but many go onto use the very valuable skills or critical analysis in a range of jobs and subjects including social work, law, humanities, journalism, medicine and teaching.

Entry Requirements:    

Grade B in Religious Education GCSE.

Students with C grades may be considered if they have a proven track record of high levels of work and motivation.
