For many students, secondary school represents a step
towards autonomy and the whole process of growing up and looking to the future. Whilst the move to secondary school is exciting, it is also a big change and it is not surprising that parents and students often feel anxious. St Thomas More aims to make the transfer from primary education to secondary education as easy and informative as possible.
The transition to St Thomas More is friendly and supportive because:
- The school is smaller so it will be easier for students to get to know each other.
- It will be possible for the staff to know each student well and for the students to know each teacher well.
- Most Year 7's will be moving to St Thomas More with peers from their own primary school, so they will already know others in their year group.
We work closely with our local Primary schools to ensure a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7 and beyond. For example, we hold coffee mornings, inter-school sports days, school assemblies, student to student liaison and specific subject workshops.
There is a strong transition support package for SEND students. Visit our Emmaus page to find out more.
