What does the course consist of?

  • 3 modules for AS – Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics*
  • AS plus 3 additional modules make A2 – Core 3, Core 4 and Decision Maths*
  • *The applied units are subject to change depending on cohort

Whom does the subject suit?

Students who enjoy mathematics, in particular working in the abstract of algebra.  Mathematics students need to be resilient, tenacious and logical in their thinking

Further study of mathematics, science, engineering and computing

Entry Requirements:

You will need at least a grade A at GCSE Mathematics and a passion for the subject.  You will need to be studying A level Mathematics also.

Introduction / Course Content:

Year 12 ( AS Units )

The Scheme of Assessment has a modular structure; with all modules tested at the end of the AS course. The AS award comprises three modules with one compulsory Further Pure unit.

AS Compulsory Units:

  • Further Pure 1(FP1)*                

Applied Units                                    

  • Statistics (S1 & S2)
  • Mechanics (M1 * & M2*)
  • Decision Maths (D1 & D2)                                                        

Year 13 ( A2 Units )

The Scheme of Assessment has a modular structure.  The Further Mathematics AS forms half of the A2 award along with two additional Further Pure units and one Applied unit.

A2 Compulsory Units:

  • Further Pure 1(FP2*)
  • Further Pure 1(FP3*)
