At St Thomas More, the PE department aims to provide a curriculum that:
- Promotes health awareness and the value of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
- That allows each individual to engage in activities that develop cardiovascular health, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance.
- Instils a sense of good sportsmanship, and encourages recognition of other pupils’ contributions.
- Develops leadership skills, responsibility and self-awareness.
- Develops independence through problem solving, evaluating, modifying technique and consolidating skills through practice and repetition.
- Supports the development of self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and helping pupils to cope with both success and failure in competitive and co-operative activities.
- Develops skills as a team player, including praise for others and motivation skills.
- Enables individuals to recognise and follow relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquette and safety procedures for different activities or events, in practice and during competition.
